CIRRHOSIS (HEPATIC LIVER)

Cirrhosis, also called the end stage liver disease is arguably the most common of the liver diseases in world's population today.

The liver is a very important organ in the human body, and it's maintenance should be a priority. Cirrhosis slowly develops and by the time one later realizes what's happened, it might be late, but not too late.

The disease is as a result of any damage done to the liver, instantly, there is an immediate liver repair. However, if the damages continue, there might be a formation of fibrosis (scarring tissues) on the liver replacing the initial parenchyma tissues, this then gradually results to cirrhosis.
The symptoms observed are divided into two groups:

• The early symptoms; This involves symptoms such as tiredness, nausea and vomiting, loss of appetite, weight loss, weakness, and pain at the upper right quadrant (part) of the abdomen.

• The final symptoms; This involves the symptoms that indicate whether the disease has finally matured. They are itchiness, formation of fluid at the abdomen, swell at the lower leg, as well as a spider like blood vessels on the skin tissues.

To diagnose the disease, few methods are used, such as liver biopsy, medical imaging and blood tests. Also, yellowish colourations on the liver denotes liver damages which can result to liver diseases.

Majority of the cases of cirrhosis reported are caused by viral infections i.e hepatitis B viruses and hepatitis C viruses and the alcoholic and non alcoholic infections.

• PREVENTIONS AND TREATMENTS

To prevent the diseases, low intake of alcoholic drinks is advised, furthermore, low intake of fats containing food  (cholesterol) is also advised.

Intake of coffee is important, this can sound ordinary, but coffee contains both caffeine and polyphenols that can help reduce the fibrosis formed on the liver.

Cirrhosis is irreversible, thus, people might be discouraged upon finding out that they have been infected with the disease. Hope is not lost, the maintenance and the process of reducing potential complications is still very much open.

Starting a healthy lifestyle will go a long way, some cases of cirrhosis like hepatitis B and C are also treated using antimicrobial agents.

I hope you enjoyed this, please help spread the word. Awareness is essential, see you when I see you. Thank you.

THE RIVETING RELEVANCE OF GLOMERULONEPHRITIS

Specificity, mostly doesn't apply when it comes to Kidney diseases . They are related, closely knitted, they go hand in hand that often times a particular kidney disease could subsequently lead to many other related kidney diseases, from Chronic kidney disease  to Kidney stones  or nephrolithiasis. With how important the kidney is, it doesn't come short on diseases that alters its functions, numerous diseases have been known to affect the kidney and one of them, is Glomerulonephritis. Glomerulonephritis refers to the compound or simple  inflammatory condition of tiny blood vessels or filtering units in the kidney, called Glomeruli . Hence, the name "glomerulo" i.e the glomeruli and "nephritis" i.e the inflammatory disease. The glomeruli basically filter (remove) waste and excess or extra fluid from the bloodstream, diseases that affect the glomeruli (sing. glomerulus) are referred to as glomerular diseases . In a more simpler overview, glomerulo...

PARKINSON'S DISEASE (PD); THE SHAKY PALSY

Dr. Richard J. Kramer, a Gastroenterologist with the Parkinson's disease said in 2019 about his experience with the disease, "I was diagnosed two and a half years ago. I couldn’t believe it! Over the three prior years before diagnosis, I had noticed that I could not hold a pen properly and even my physician-type handwriting had become much worse than normal".                    Dr. Kramer and wife   The Parkinson's disease gradually deteriorates the nervous system. The symptoms appear gradually, and perhaps might go unnoticed by patients with the disease. However, it worsens over time.    Ever since the 17th century, the Parkinson's disease (otherwise known as PD) has been gaining weight in the medical world, but it was not until the 19th century that an English surgeon named  James Parkinson  published the book "essay on the shaking palsy", that the Parkinson's disease came ...
